E=MC2

But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33

I am certainly no mathematician but I can add and subtract. I did fairly well in Algebra but in Geometry I only lasted as long as the shortest distance between two places is a straight line. (At least I learned something).

My friend (Spiritual Accountability Partner) and I were talking the other day about what God adds to our lives. We discussed that many times we (everyone), feel like we are doing things that add to our lives but in the end because they are against God’s commands,or instructions, we are actually subtracting from our lives.

I have been thinking about this all day just thinking of example after example of this in life.

If we decide to keep our tithes and offerings we might think we’re adding to our finances but we fail to remember that God keeps the enemy from taking from us ONLY when we are faithful and bring them to His house where we are taught to do His work.

My same friend shared a devotion with me this morning that said,

“Jesus is telling you that Sabbath rest is for you. It is not a legalistic command. It is a gift that is more relevant today than ever before. It’s an opportunity to rest from the relentless pressures of our lives and be content.”

Sometimes we mistakenly think that we need to take the Sabbath day (Sunday) and savor it for ourselves, we feel like we’re adding to our life by doing what we want but we’re actually missing the gift of supernatural rest and contentment from God that we can never get on our own.

Some may think that not having sexual relationships outside of marriage takes from them some fun, excitement, or happiness but in actuality God gives us this command to add to our lives, and to our marriages, and to take from us from heartbreak, sickness or disease and to add to us physical, emotional and Spiritual fitness. If we are all honest those of us who did not heed this command are still carrying scars of heartbreak and insecurity and maybe even disease.

There are so many promises and instructions from God in His Word and we can examine them all to see how each one adds to our lives. Adam and Eve were deceived by satan to think that God was taking a fruit from them that would add to their pleasure. It took from them purity, innocence and an Eternal Life without sin and their full, tangible relationship with God.

Lets examine our life and actions and see what God's Word says about them. Test Him and see that He will add to our lives if we follow His commands.

I don’t understand geometry or E=MC2 but God does. Why would I think that I know better how to add to my quality of life than He does?

And by the way I am still not convinced that geometry is actually math.
