One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
Psalm 27:4
Deep down inside, I desire to have the discipline to sit and listen to Jesus. I want to say, with David: "This only do I seek."
I know I'm able to talk with God all day, praying for things that come to mind, I can even make a special time in the morning or evening to lay out all my prayers and concerns, but deep down I want more than that. I want what David wanted, to just gaze on His beauty, to feel His peaceful presence, to hear what He would like to say to me. I want to know Him more personally than I do.
There's an old saying, "Wishing never fills a sack." We have to put into action to accomplish what we desire.
There are so many verses in the Bible where God is telling His people to seek Him. Seek means to strive after, hunt, track down, pursue. We seek many things but is knowing God more one of them? Does a quick morning devotion and nightly prayer satisfy us?
In Luke 10:41-42 Jesus told Martha that Mary had found the One Thing that mattered. Let's really make the decision to change from Martha and the busyness, to Mary and sit at His feet, to really be still and know Him. Not sending up requests, not even sending up praise and worship, but digging in His Word, meditating on it and waiting to hear from Him. Seeking Him. If we concentrate on the One Thing, we can be sure everything else will work out for us. Matthew 6:33
