"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
Did you know that more than 1 million Americans have been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? That's a lot of tired people in a busy world! Sometimes we feel like we need super human strength just to get through each day. I found myself weary and tired and just pushing myself to put one foot in front of the other every day. I was saying to myself, "Does someone think I have superhuman powers that others don't have? I can't do everything I need to do."
This morning when I woke up, somehow I was able to get up, stay up and feel good about it! I decided I had better make my bed right away in case the temptation to get back in it took away my newly found strength. As I was making it I heard God say "Supernatural, not superhuman. " Immediately I had to repent for my earlier thoughts and comments. Even though I don't have superhuman powers, I DO have Supernatural Powers working in me!
Christians have been given the power to live a supernatural life. We receive supernatural power to hope even in the face of a seemingly hopeless situation . . . to love even someone who is utterly unlovable . . . and to find peace even in the midst of the most violent storm. This is real, supernatural strength that has been given to us to lift us above the challenges of daily living and to put the Gospel on display.
When Jesus hung on the cross He put His love for us on display, now we have to put the benefits of His Spirit in us on display!
He doesn't respond to our times of weakness by telling us to pull ourselves up by the bootstraps. No! He provides real help. God gives us supernatural strength that comes from His Holy Spirit.
Relying on the strength of God is not a sign of weakness, it is an expression of faith.
His Word says that when I am weak He is made strong. Made strong in us to carry us through the tough things and through the everyday mundane things that zap our strength. All we need to do is ask.
Psalm 18:32 says, “It is God who arms me with strength, And makes my way perfect.”
Let's be mindful of the times we are doing everything in our natural strength, and wearing ourselves out, and ask God to carry us through in His Supernatural strength. I am so thankful He spoke to me this morning!
. . . Being strengthened with all power according to [God’s] glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience . (Colossians 1:11)
