And then this, while Joshua was there near Jericho: He looked up and saw right in front of him a man standing, holding his drawn sword. Joshua stepped up to him and said, “Whose side are you on—ours or our enemies’?”
He said, “Neither. I’m commander of God’s army. I’ve just arrived.” Joshua fell, face to the ground, and worshiped. He asked, “What orders does my Master have for his servant?”
Joshua 5:13-14
Breakthrough is moving forward through a situation, past the obstacles the enemy (satan) has placed before you. Our first step in breakthrough is accepting Jesus as Lord and acknowledging that He is the answer to what's best for our lives.
God sent Joshua to take over Jericho, a land that was full of adversaries. Jesus met him there and gave him the orders he needed to takeover the land. He listened and took his first step to breakthrough.
What orders does our Master have for us concerning our breakthrough and how do we find out?
Step two in our breakthrough is making it a priority to spend time with God. When we acknowledge who God is we praise Him for it. Putting on worship music can help us put into words what we feel in our hearts. Spend some time in worship and then ask Him for direction in the situations in your life. Spend time throughout the day thinking about your worship to Him and the directions you need from Him. When you truly seek Him for answers He will send them. When you feel like you have heard an answer keep praying about it and ask God to let you know it was Him answering you through confirmation from other places like His Word, a Godly friend, or a Pastor's message.
The more time you spend doing this the easier it becomes to hear Him and recognize His voice from all the other voices around you. As you grow closer to Him you'll hear Him speak to you at times you weren't looking for Him. You'll hear Him speak to you in the middle of a situation or even before a situation comes up!
This world is our Jericho and God has sent us to takeover! He wants us to live in a land flowing with milk and honey, meaning he wants us to do well and to live a long, joyful life having everything we need.
Remember, Jesus is the Commander of God's army and He has come to help us takeover!
