Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me and that you would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain.
1 Chronicles 4:10
Jabez is asking God to enlarge his influence, and to give him more opportunities to bring God Glory. Opportunities to witness and enlarge the kingdom of God. You see when our territory is enlarged God's kingdom should be enlarged. The more opportunities we have to see people and talk to people the more opportunities we have to share the Gospel and bring people to salvation.
Territory is more than land or a region.
God can enlarge our territory of knowledge, of wisdom, of joy, of peace, all bringing an opportunity to share Him with others.
God wants His people to want to do BIG things! He wants His people to have BIG dreams, He wants His people to stretch and reach beyond their capabilities. God doesn't receive much Glory for what we are able to do on our own but He receives GREAT Glory for things He accomplishes through us!
The LORD said to Gideon, "You have too many warriors with you. If I let all of you fight the Midianites, the Israelites will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength.
We have been commanded to go out and make disciples (followers of God).
That can be scary, maybe we have no idea how to do that. BUT God does! Trust Him for your territory, your opportunity and even the words to say. He has not asked you to do something He is not willing to enable you to do!
Sometimes we will have to step out and do a BIG thing but when it is beyond our abilities, we know that God will receive the Glory for the outcome!
