Wellspring of Life

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Proverbs 4:23

The heart is the central organ of the body providing blood flow to all the tissues and organs in our body. If the heart isn't able to provide that blood flow they die. Just as our bodily health depends on what flows from the heart so does our Spiritual health depend on what flows from the heart.

Our emotions are gifts from God, some are pleasant and some are not but they are there to move us to do something. They can move us to relieve someone else's pain, they can move us to intercession, they can move us to forgiveness, they can move us to share the Gospel.

We have to guard our hearts because the unpleasant emotions of hurt, disappointment, offenses, and anger can wound our hearts if they are not dealt with. Instead of recognizing the danger of these emotions, we can get very good at burying them and continuing on.

If our heart has become hardened because of wounds we can become hardened toward others. We may not be sensitive to what grieves the heart of God and not be able to move on behalf of it.

If we recognize our emotions and bring them to God, we can submit our hearts to Him and allow Him to do His work in our hearts and direct our actions.

What causes us to do things, to say things, to pursue things, to love things, to hate things? What determines every thought, word, and deed that comes from us?

Our heart!

Reveal everything in your heart to God so he can heal the wounds, this is not the place to try to doctor on ourselves, this is the work of God.

Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in His holy place?

The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.

Psalm 24:3-4

No man can make his heart pure, It is only God that creates a clean heart and renews a right Spirit in man, and He does this through man submitting his heart to Him.
