But I will deal differently with the land of Goshen, where my people live; no swarms of flies will be there, so that you will know that I, the Lord, am in this land.
Exodus 8:22
If we look at the news long enough we could easily become fearful. It seems as if lawlessness abounds and that doesn't make us feel safe. When God's people (the Hebrews) were slaves in Egypt they lived in a region called Goshen. When God sent the plagues to Egypt, the Egyptians suffered while God's people remained in safety. The angel of death killed many of the Egyptians but the applied blood of a sacrificed lamb to the doorposts of the Hebrews made the death angel pass over them. Our hope rests in the Lamb slain for us. Jesus. His blood is applied to our hearts and even though we live in a world of lawlessness we have no need to fear. God has placed us in Goshen.
